Hamburg, December 19, 2014 – Retail real estate specialist Prelios Immobilien Management, based in Hamburg, is developing and leasing a shopping center in downtown Husum on behalf of Husum Shopping Center GmbH and will subsequently take over center management. The planned rental space will be approximately 10,000 square meters, with completion targeted for 2018. The centrally located shopping center will be built on the site of the former Hertie department store on Großstraße, incorporating an existing parking garage. Additionally, a multi-story parking garage with approximately 650 parking spaces is planned to serve as Husum’s central parking facility. The project is being closely coordinated with the city’s authorities and committees.
Martin Mörl, Managing Director of Prelios Immobilien Management, stated:
“Our goal is to significantly enhance Husum’s city center with a vibrant, modern shopping center, bringing new energy to the area and increasing visitor footfall. That’s why we place great emphasis on creating a high-quality visitor experience, a robust overall concept, and a tenant and retail mix tailored to the location and customer base. The new shopping center will integrate seamlessly into Theodor Storm’s city and complement the existing retail offering.”
The new shopping center will feature approximately 35 rental units of various sizes, catering to groceries, textile retail, drugstores, fashion, services, gastronomy, and healthcare. Mörl further explained:
“We aim to bring new brands and tenants to Husum and will start pre-leasing in January. Our in-depth market analysis has shown particularly strong demand in the textile and grocery sectors, and we have already received concrete leasing inquiries from businesses in these industries.”
Dr. Gisbert Beckers, one of the Managing Partners of Husum Shopping Center GmbH, emphasized:
“The project development is based on a convincing concept for this inner-city location. With Prelios, we have a highly competent partner in retail real estate for both the development and long-term operation of the new Husum shopping center.”
Peter Cohrs, Managing Partner of Husum Shopping Center GmbH, added:
“The retail concept is designed to complement and enhance the location. It seamlessly connects with our department store across the street, benefiting from optimal foot traffic and the multi-story parking facility, while the new shopping center will profit from the strong pull of C.J. Schmidt, which boasts more than 11,000 square meters of retail space. Overall, Husum’s city center will gain from the revitalization of this historic site and the expansion of its retail and service offerings.”
Located on Germany’s North Sea coast, near the North Frisian Islands, Husum serves as the economic hub of North Frisia with a catchment area of over 340,000 consumers and an estimated three million daily visitors annually.
